Since last year, the Chungcheongbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services has been intensively cultivating the insect black soldier fly as a specialized crop.

We focused on the fact that larvae are rich in protein and fat, so they are widely used as food for fish, birds, and pets.

In particular, we are currently pursuing the development of various products such as pig feed.

In line with industrialization, we are developing eco-friendly spawning trays for mass production of black soldier fly larvae and distributing them to farms, while also creating standard breeding methods.

[Lee Ji-su/Researcher, Chungcheongbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services: "There is a breeding manual developed by the Promotion Agency, but there are some shortcomings, so we need a breeding manual that can mass produce (larvae) that can be industrialized."]

Currently, the number of BSF breeding farms in North Chungcheong Province has increased to 32, and sales have increased to 2.9 billion won.

This is Ji Yong-su from KBS News.
